It was time. Obsolete, the influential Los Angeles based gallery and purveyor of the obscure and fantastic, needed documentation.

Sifting through an avalanche of archival images and viewing objects and art at the gallery, Collective edited and designed a book consisting of seven intuitively delineated sections, each starting with a piece of text that maintains the project’s unique spirit and Obsolete’s modus operandi.

Produced in partnership with Twin Palms Publishers early in the pandemic, the book was printed in Turkey using materials sourced from Northern Italy. The book’s title “Everyone Will Please Wait in Line” is lifted directly from an old piece of signage that once graced the gallery, and was painstakingly reproduced for the cover. We knew it was the title and cover the moment we saw it and never considered anything else.
